Docs · Making the film

Deliver

Combine everything into the one file you take away. Nothing is baked in until you ask for it, so a clip or a track changed upstream is picked up by the next render rather than stale in this one.

Cut

The generated clips laid out in order with their transitions. The artifact-prone head and tail of every clip are trimmed automatically, and the cut is laid fresh from whatever the clips are now — regenerate a shot and the cut has the new take.

Mixdown

Every voice-over at its cue and every effect under the shot it was made for, balanced and loudness-normalised to a broadcast target. The Mix tab lays the film's sound against the picture and plays it, so you hear the film before you render it.

Render & Export

Joins the picture and the soundtrack into one finished video. Options:

Subtitles
Burns in the film's own marked script. Subtitles are the script, not a transcription of the reading, so they are always right.
Upscale GPU
Enlarges the finished film frame by frame with ESRGAN, keeping its frame rate and audio. It runs once, on the render — the only thing it should ever run on — rather than on twenty separate clips. Billed by the GPU minute.

Exporting

Three scopes:

  • The film — the finished render, upscaled if you asked for it.
  • This stage — every output of the current stage.
  • The whole project — everything, as a zip with a manifest listing every file and the step that made it.
